Some volunteer opportunities include:AccountantWe are currently looking to recruit an accountant to serve on our Corporate Board. An accountant can provide financial counseling, budget expertise, and accounting services to the board in meeting state and IRS filing requirements. Sometimes this person maintains the corporate books as treasurer. The accountant and attorney work closely to ensure that the corporation is in full compliance with HOBY’s Legal and Financial Compliance Policy. Some activities include: • Preparing financial updates for Board Meetings • Tracking all financial transactions • Preparing year end financial statement • Providing financial information for DC corporate reporting Attorney We are currently looking to recruit an attorney with non-profit experience to serve on our Corporate Board. The presence of an attorney during board meetings assures that the corporate board will not enter into any actions that violate the statutes. Compliance with state law and federal law is the responsibility of the corporate board. The attorney and accountant work closely to ensure that the corporation is in full compliance with HOBY’s Legal and Financial Compliance Policy. Some activities/responsibilities of this position include: • Review and approval of contracts • Ensure background checks are completed for all volunteers • Review of required corporate reporting for DC Fundraising – financial and in-kind donations Have a knack for raising money or gift-in kind donations? HOBY-NCA relies on corporate and individual donations to support our programs through: • Grants • Gifts-in-kind • Corporate contributions • Individual contributions • Service and cooperating organizations • Fundraising events Public Relations Public relations work is essential to the stability and longevity of HOBY-NCA. Some PR activities/initiatives include: • Assembly of press kits • Providing ideas and assistance in developing printed, audio-visual and website materials. • Creation of quarterly newsletters • Creation and distribution of press releases Ambassador Recruitment Have a contact at a DC school?? One of the key objectives of HOBY is to extend the opportunity to attend a leadership seminar to as many students as possible. We aim to increase the numbers of students who participate, and the number of schools who enthusiastically select a participant year after year. Help us recruit students with leadership potential for our leadership seminars and community workshops! Junior Staff/Team Alumni Many Leadership Seminars successfully use past HOBY Ambassadors as staff helpers throughout the seminar weekend. These individuals are to be referred to as Junior Staff. Junior Staff can add a great deal to a HOBY Seminar while providing a positive role model of volunteerism to their younger peers. This is not an opportunity to relive their seminar weekends, but alumni are invited to serve on the seminar staff to provide the Ambassadors with the best possible HOBY experience. Leadership Seminar Director of Community Service Leadership for Service is HOBY’s community service program intended to prepare young people to contribute to their communities through volunteerism. All Leadership Seminars include a variety of service related activities in order to achieve this purpose. The Director of Community Service works with the Director of Program to integrate the required Leadership for Service components into the seminar schedule, including the community service project conducted at the seminar. Leadership Seminar Director of Operations & Facilities The atmosphere provided by the host facility, and the cooperation of the facility’s management team, truly makes a difference in the success of the seminar. The main function of the Director of Operations & Facilities is to negotiate the best possible contract with the host facility, and to ensure smooth flow of logistics during the seminar. The Director of Operations & Facilities makes arrangements for all lodging rooms, meals, meeting rooms, and audio visual needs. Director of Cooperating Organizations Service organizations such as Optimist, Kiwanis, Lions and Women’s Clubs have made a vital contribution to furthering the HOBY mission. In addition, many non-profit organizations have chosen to give their endorsements and/or support to HOBY on a national level because their goals and purposes are closely aligned with HOBY’s. These organizations are referred to as HOBY’s Cooperating Organizations. The benefits received by the local seminar planning committees from this relationship can be substantial. But, it is the committee’s responsibility to foster the relationship with the various organizations at the local level. The Director of Service and Cooperating Organizations provides assistance in soliciting local clubs/chapters for financial support, volunteer resources, student recruitment, and other involvement with the seminar.
